Bob Camden Essay Contest

(Call 823-6222 for more information)

2017 Topic

"An act of kindness that impacted me.."

(2017 was our final year of the essay contest)

Robert “Bob” Camden

Was an English teacher in the Manteca Unified School District (MUSD) for many years. He was viewed by students and his fellow teachers as an individual who could challenge those around him to appreciate the classics and the beauty of the written word.

Mr. Camden penned twice-a-week columns for nearly twenty years, first for the Manteca News and then for the Manteca Bulletin. There are two First Person books that are a collection of his columns. He also authored a biography of local real estate and philanthropist Antone E. Raymus.

Bob Camden used his creative skills during the formative period of Give Every Child A Chance (GECAC), Manteca's Volunteer Mentor-Tutor Program, by challenging the founding members with "what if...?" questions that stimulate critical thinking. This essay contest is presented to celebrate Camden's contributions to our community and his inspirational gift of creative writing.
